2006 West Sac Tri Race Report
I begin with a easy paced swim and as I exit the water I turn to my right and Eric is right along with me, and there were not that many people ahead (so things were looking great). I get on the bike and head out through West Sac, enjoy the view of the Nugget Tower that I helped design, and continue on to the levee road.
At mile 8 of the bike I notice three pot-holes back to back, so with my luck I was too late to avoid them. I nailed the third one and blew my tire. A couple minutes go by and Don passes, a few more and Jim from the Sac Tri club passes. This is where I get ticked because he is the one guy ahead of me in the 25-29 age group in the past to tri4fun's, and I had a 4-5 minute lead on him. I knew with a flat course like this I could hold him off into the run and then see what happens.
Randy was great and threw me his repair kit, but I was in such a rush I busted the spare tube. Randy I owe you a tube (let me know what size) and Co2.
Walking the bike back on the levee road was an experience I was not ready to deal with. Especially when I was finally picked up by race director, and he tells me that the levee road is in bad shape and has been for 10 plus years. But oh well.
The best part about the DNF was enjoying the fact that I felt well rested as people struggle through the 90-100 degree heat at the finish line.
